Auxilium 2022
Design Problem
How might we design an engaging and therapeutically effective digital experience for children aged 5–7 with high-functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), to extend the benefits of in-person therapy into the home environment in a way that supports consistency, motivation, and developmental progress?
Design Solution
Auxilium is a home-based digital platform co-designed with therapists, caregivers, and children using user-centered design methods such as empathy mapping, contextual inquiry, and iterative prototyping. Gamification elements, like progress tracking and reward systems, are informed by behavior design to promote engagement and routine. The system extends therapeutic goals into daily home life, supporting consistency and motivation for children with high-functioning ASD.
UX Process
Literature Review (ASD & Gamification) > Expert Interviews (Therapists, Psychologists, Parents) > Persona Development (Child & Guardian) > Empathy Mapping > User Journey Mapping > Service Blueprinting > Gamification Strategy Design > Wireframing > Low-fidelity Prototyping > User Testing with Therapists & Parents > Feedback Loops > Iterative Design & Refinement
Auxilium is a system/service for home-oriented regular gamified therapies which are supplementary to real therapies. The platform aims to support children between 5-7 years old who are diagnosed with high-functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder.
